Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.
1 Peter 5:8
It is vain to think that we are not in war zone as Christians. We must recognise a fundamental truth that the devil is out to steal, kill, and destroy every goodness of God in us. From the day we left his camp of darkness and switched to the camp of light, he has been infuriated with us and will do anything and everything to sabotage our life’s and our relationships with God.
The correct response to him is to overcome evil with good. We must learn to overcome temptations of the enemy with the opposite of what he wants us to do. We must learn to wait on God, wait for God’s time and not be in a hurry to destroy the testimonies that we have built over the years. We must not give a foothold to our arch enemy who wants to steal, kill and destroy our lives, our relationships with God and other people, our testimonies, our reputation, our integrity and our very being.
Joseph understood this principle and ran when he was tempted by Potiphar‘s wife. He understood the call of God on his life, he understood the trajectory of his walk with God and he overcame the temptation by doing just the opposite of the temptation. He ran for his life.
If he succumbed to the temptation, no one would have known; however, his integrity and his testimony before God would have been forever stained and tainted for life. Yes, he would have asked for forgiveness and God would have forgiven him, but that will not erase the fact that he temptation. That would have been a win for the devil and a loss to God‘s purpose from him.
We talk about his story today because he was a young man that overcame evil by doing good. He did good to himself. He did good to God and to the purpose of God for his life. He did good by running away from temptation.
The solution to the enemy is to do good, used to keep overcoming evil with good. Run for your life my friend and keep doing that which is good and godly in God’s eyes.
