“But they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them.”
Luke 24:29
The text above is about two disciples on their way to Emmaus who were discussing the recent events ie the resurrection of Jesus. As they walked along the way, Jesus joined them in the discussion but they didn’t realise it was Him. At some point, He decided to leave them and carry on with His journey.
The two disciples constrained and urged Him to stay and eat with them. From then on, as they dined with Him, they knew Him, spoke more with Him, their eyes were opened, they understood His mission and actually saw Him as witnesses of the resurrection.
What if they didn’t constrain Him to stay? What if they didn’t insist He should stay? What if they didn’t fight for His place at their table? What if they let Him go? They would not have experienced Him nor known Him; they would have remained sceptics or confused. They entertained a stranger not knowing He was their risen Messiah because they cared.
For us to experience Jesus fully and in every way, we must insist on Him staying with us. We must make Him our favourite all time and insist on His help everyday. We must show Him how we need Him. Their deliverance came from their interactions at the table.
Today, Jesus has now set a wonderful feast at the table and He is the One calling all of us to come and dine with Him.
Come and share in His divine nature
Come and spend quality time with Him.
Come and receive grace for the day.
Come and share in His blessings.
Come and see Him as He is.
Make His presence your favourite resting place, and make Him your favourite Person. The banquet is ready. The music is set. The Lord is here. Hear Him say, “Come and dine with Me.”
Lord we come. Amen.
Thank you for reading, and may God bless you immeasurably!
