“But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it.”
1 Timothy 6:6-7
This scripture reminds us that true wealth is found in living a life of godliness and being content with what we have, rather than constantly seeking more material things.
No man acquired money or wealth in their mother’s womb. No man was born with dollars or pounds stuffed around them on their birth day. Every man came as a vulnerable, tiny, cute and cuddly baby with nothing but a soft beautiful smile.
Similarly, no matter the avalanche of money or status we acquire on earth, we shall all leave here empty handed.
Since we all entered this world with nothing and will surely leave with nothing, accumulating wealth should not be the only key to lasting fulfillment. Instead, we should desire to have a heart anchored in faith, love, contentment and gratitude because these are the path to a deeper, eternal satisfaction.
Rather than be like the Gehazi that got greedy and lost a potential opportunity to succeed Elisha as the next great prophet of Isreal, we must learn to embrace the attitude of contentment and gratitude like Jesus the human Son of a mere carpenter.
So it’s ok to have a little. It’s ok to have one talent or one shoe. It’s ok to have a few. It is okay. Therefore, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.” (Luke 12:15)
