Let the love for your fellow believers continue.

Hebrews 13:1

Love is the greatest gift we can give to anyone. Love is kind. Love rejoices when others excel. Love is merciful and counts no wrong… etc. 1 Corinthians 13 shows us all these attributes of love. We know what love is and we understand it but the issue is in the doing.

The main contender of love is self. We would rather prefer, favour, help, encourage or give to ourselves than others. There is always that silent unconscious voice asking inside, “What about me? What about what I want? See how they treated Me!”

We will never achieve the level of love for others or even for our fellow brethren until we learn to discountenance and refuse that inner voice of self-preservation.

Jesus told His disciples, “By this shall all men know that you follow me if you love one another” – John 13:35. Maybe the reason why the Church has less impact on the world system today is because we have stopped to show selfless agape love to each other. We have all become consumed and focused in ourselves, our wants and our selfish motivations and agendas. Some term it boldly as “self-love.”

There is a great need for each of us to return to the drawing board and start showing love again to those around us, especially to our fellow believers. Love is God and God is love. The only proof that we love God who we cannot see is in the daily acts of showing love to the men and women we can see.
