A car ahead of me was moving quite slowly, like a turtle and not giving me way in spite of my continuous honking! I was on brink of losing my cool when I noticed the small sticker on the car’s rear!

“Physically challenged; Please be patient.”

And that changed everything!!
I immediately went calm and slowed down!! In fact, I got a little protective of the car and the driver!!! I reached home a few minutes late, but it was ok! And then it struck me. If I didn’t see that sticker, what would have been my subsequent reaction? Will I overtake the car as soon as I get the opportunity?

The fact is that, as believers, we are called to be patient and forbearing of others. We must not wait to see the stickers on people’s foreheads before we can show them the kindness of the Saviour that lives within. If we look through the eyes of God, we will see the many stickers people carry with them everyday – “lost my job” , “fighting cancer”, “going through a bad divorce”, “struggling with depression”, “an abuse victim”, “lost a loved one”, “feeling worthless”, “broken hearted”, “financially broken”; etc.

Everyone is fighting a battle we know something or nothing about; hence, the need to be patient and tolerant is dire. The Bible encourages us to let our light shine i.e. let Christ who is our Light shine through us to others. This can only happen when we show patience, forbearance, tolerance and are less critical and judgemental of others. Christ can only shine through us when we are broken, obedient and humble to Him.

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” – Matthew 5:16

Shalom.
