Driving on the motorway, hitting about 60miles per hour, another car suddenly sped past and overtook me. The driver honked me angrily while he overtook me. I reacted. I increased my speed. I must retake my position from him!
The more I sped, the more he did! He veered into the left lane. We approached a cross junction and the traffic lights turned red. With twitchy fingers, I couldn’t wait for the green light so I can overtake him. After 20 seconds, even though it seemed like eternity, the green lights beamed ‘Go’.
I revved my engine to overtake him, he simply turned left into a side road and continued his journey. Anticlimactic emotions swirled up as I thought to myself, “Why am I worrying about those who are not on the same journey with me. I need to drive your my own car and focus on my own journey.”
I continued my journey.
Countless times, whether consciously or unconsciously, we are busy reacting to others who are on a different trajectory and journey from ours. This leads us to fights, arguments, strivings and eventually tears. We lose our peace with God and our prayers change because we desperately want to prove a point.
It is time for you to focus on your goals, dreams and on your destination. Focus on God’s dealings and direction in your life; and what God is working out in you and through you. Focus on your own trajectory with God wherever that may be. Remember you in God’s safe hands. The more we practise this everyday, the more we will relax and be that vessel of honour God so desires for us. Moreover, the more we will be fulfilled and settled in our hearts and in our lives.
Shalom.
